When most of us think of ‘reality’ we view it as a static thing, a way of describing what we can see before our own eyes. In truth, however, the way we view and understand the world around us is taught and influenced in a way that is far from objective. The game ‘Baba Is You’ by Arvi Teikari, presents a whole new world, one where the rules are very different, and where relearning and reframing reality is the key to success. In a brief presentation for Antirealists Murdoch, I’ll discuss the game mechanics and design philosophies that underline Baba Is You’s production of reality, and what they might mean for understanding our own lived realities.
